Steps to becoming a Rolfer*
Rolfing training offers a unique blend of experiential learning, academic rigor,
and personal growth. Rolfing classes are small to maximize attention to individuals.
Completion of the program allows students to enter a profession in which the freedom
of self employment is supported by a well established reputation and a worldwide
Rolfing community.
The South African training is structured as an intensive training
that allows students to become certified Rolfers and start practicing in just over
one year.
* The words Rolfer® and Rolfing®
are registered service marks of the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration.
The Rolfing training is offered in three units. For the first unit, there are two
options available, depending upon your background.
The necessary understanding of connective tissue touch, therapeutic relationship,
anatomy, physiology and movement is provided in the Unit 1/FORSI training. Students
must complete either Foundations of Rolfing Structural Integration or Advanced Foundations
of Rolfing Structural Integration to satisfy these prerequisites.
The objectives of the Integrated Rolfing Studies which consists of Unit II and III
are to educate the student in the theoretical principles of Rolfing structural integration
and Rolf Movement Integration, and their practical applications. Upon successful
completion of this program, students will be certified as Rolfers.
Students must complete one of the two prerequisite courses: Foundations of Rolfing
Structural Integration (FORSI) or Advanced Foundations of Rolfing Structural Integration
(AFORSI). During both of these courses, the instructor will assess each candidate's
readiness to begin Rolfing Training. Working individually with each student, the
instructor establishes a mutually agreed upon plan of practice and review for the
interval period between Unit I and Unit II.
